Jury Statement
It is a film that is fearless, that is political without aiming at political correctness, a film that does not psychologise and has a long, exciting narrative arc. Restrictions of freedom with the accompanying measures and enforcement, which are legally legitimised as normal in the respective time, form the framework for these love stories told in a grand manner.
Grandiose actors who test the limits of their art in a claustrophobic setting, excellent lighting and camera work make this film an extraordinary experience.
The ExtraVALUE Film Award 2021 goes to "Grosse Freiheit" by Sebastian Meise.
We look back on a decade of ExtraVALUE Film Awards.
25 filmmakers were awarded for their works from 2011 to 2020.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the award-winning films are available exclusively in the KINO VOD CLUB - the cinema for the home. Each stream not only supports the filmmakers awarded with the ExtraVALUE Film Award, but also one of 57 Austrian cinemas to choose from.
We would like to thank our partners in New York the Deutsches Haus at NYU, Juliane Camfield and Sarah Girner and the Anthology Film Archives, Jed Rapfogel for the many years of good cooperation.
