Musikverein – Society of Music Lovers

The Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (Society of Music Lovers) was founded in 1812; the Erste oesterreichische Spar-Casse (First Austrian Savings Bank) in 1819. The two societies have been working together closely for nearly two centuries. When the Society of Music Lovers erected its new house in the 1860s, as a “benefactor” the Erste oesterreichische Spar-Casse was one of its most important financers. Today, the Erste Bank Foyer, inaugurated in September 2003, is a symbol of this long-standing partnership.
